By a landslide vote of 398-17, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution Tuesday opposing the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement “targeting Israel, including efforts to target United States companies that are engaged in commercial activities that are legal under United States law, and all efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel.”
House Resolution 246 calls for increased security aid to the Jewish state, as well as for a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Sixteen Democrats opposed the bill, including Muslim Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar; both support the BDS movement and both have sparked criticism for ongoing anti-Semitic comments.
As Republican Rep. Alex Mooney put it, “The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement is an economic attack on Israel and BDS supporters do not even think Israel should exist.”
