Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) seemed unimpressed by the grand proposals in the Green New Deal unveiled today by Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, noting that replacing airplanes with high-speed rail transport isn’t exactly a workable option for Hirono’s home state.
“That would be pretty hard for Hawaii,” Hirono said skeptically. Hawaii is roughly 2,500 miles away from Los Angeles, California, with a flight time of four and a half hours.
Some Democrat presidential hopefuls, however, including Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren, have expressed support for the deal.
