Hirono Tweets “Confidential” Kavanaugh Documents

Hirono Tweets “Confidential” Kavanaugh Documents

September 10, 2018

Following Cory Booker‘s example, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) yesterday tweeted screenshots of documents from Brett Kavanaugh’s years in the Bush White House that were classified as “committee confidential.” Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office had released the documents without the confidential markings just minutes before Hirono posted her tweet.

One document contained a 2002 email thread in which Kavanaugh said that “any program targeting Native Hawaiians as a group is subject to strict scrutiny and of questionable validity under the Constitution.” “These are the docs [Republicans] don’t want you to see,” Hirono tweeted, “because they show that Judge Kavanaugh wrongly believes that Native Hawaiian programs are Constitutionally questionable.”
