Hirono: Trump Responsible For Rise in Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

March 2, 2021

Sunday on ABC’s This Week, Sen. Mazie Hirono predictably blamed former President Trump’s purported rhetoric about the coronavirus for an increase in hate crimes against Asian-Americans.

Asked why a “striking surge in anti-Asian hate crimes here in America” is happening, Hirono replied, “It’s happening because we didn’t have leadership at the top, starting from President Trump calling it the China virus and the Kung flu and all of that, which apparently unleashed this kind of targeted hate crimes among Asian-Americans, and the increase is dramatic.”

Fact check: there is absolutely zero evidence that Trump rightfully blaming China for the COVID pandemic motivated anti-Asian hate crimes.

“Just last week in New York, a person who was just walking down the street got knifed,” the anti-Trump hysteric Hirono noted. “He is in serious condition. Soon thereafter, four people walking in New York were knifed. One died. In California, you have incidents of 90-year-old people being knocked down, attacked. That person died.”

Fact check: violent crimes happen all the time in Democrat-controlled New York and California, but it’s more politically useful for Hirono to try to pin these crimes on Trump than on the Democrat political leaders defunding the police, releasing criminals from prison so they won’t catch COVID, and throwing open the borders to illegal alien criminals.
