Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton tweeted Tuesday that the U.S. has “abdicated” its role “as a country that leads the world toward a more hopeful future” under the Trump administration, citing its withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.
“On the climate crisis and on so many other fronts, the United States has abdicated its position as a country that leads the world toward a more hopeful future,” Clinton wrote. “Let’s start changing that at the polls today—and a year from now in 2020.”
Last month during an energy conference in Pittsburgh, Trump declared that the U.S. would withdraw from the climate agreement as part of his “America First” agenda. “The Paris accord would have been shutting down American producers with excessive regulatory restrictions like you would not believe, while allowing foreign producers to pollute with impunity,” he stated.
“What we won’t do is punish the American people while enriching foreign polluters,” Trump continued. “It’s called America First.”
