In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton weighed in on the controversy surrounding a 36-year-old sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, saying the accuser should be given “the benefit of the doubt.”
“I remember back in the [Clarence] Thomas hearing when Senator [Robert] Byrd was asked what he was going to do, and he said in a situation like this we should give the benefit of the doubt to the court and the country. And that’s what the Republicans should be doing right now, from the White House down Pennsylvania avenue to the Senate: give the benefit of the doubt to the court and the country.”
