Democrat presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris responded to a memo about using federal money to buy guns for teachers by countering that they need “a raise, not guns.”
Politico reported that Democrats claim an internal memo shows that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has the power to prevent federal monies from being used by states to provide firearms to teachers who wish to be armed. But DeVos pointed to Title IV of the Every Student Succeeds Act, saying that Act gives the decision-making power to the states.
“We need to give teachers a raise — not guns,” Harris tweeted in reply.
