GOP: Revoke Kerry’s Security Clearance for ‘Possible Treason’

April 29, 2021

In a letter to President Joe Biden on Tuesday written regarding allegations that former SecState John Kerry shared Israeli military secrets with Iran, Republican Rep. Andy Biggs urged Biden to rescind Kerry’s security clearance.

“I urge you to immediately suspend Special Envoy John Kerry’s security clearance and prevent him from participating in any classified briefings until the full nature of his interactions with the Islamic Republic of Iran are investigated,” Biggs wrote. “If Mr. Kerry provided sensitive information to Iran about Israel’s activities in Syria, he undermined a friend and bolstered an enemy. At best, such behavior would be despicable; at worst, it would verge on treason.”Biden’s State Department defended Kerry by suggesting the information he discussed about Israeli operations with Iranian Foreign Minister (FM) Mohammad Javad Zarif was already widely known to the public at the time. On Twitter, Kerry himself denied sharing any secrets with Zarif.

So the Biden administration’s defense is that no Israeli secrets were shared, but when they were shared they weren’t secret. Sounds legit.

According to leaked audio that surfaced Sunday, Zarif claimed that Kerry told him, “to his astonishment,” about over 200 Israeli operations against Iranian troops in Syria.

Rep. Biggs added, “The American people should be astonished as well. Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, and it has consistently supported the brutal regime of the Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. At the same time, Israel has consistently served as the United States’ strongest ally and strategic partner in the Middle East.”
