Ellen Ending Show in Wake of Scandals, Plummeting Ratings

May 12, 2021

Talk show queen and LGBT advocate Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly planning to end her long-running daytime show next season in the wake of plunging ratings and workplace misconduct accusations.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter. Oh, so it’s not about workplace misconduct or plummeting ratings, it’s about moving on to a new creative challenge. Sure.

Last year, several former employees accused senior management of bullying behavior and sexual misconduct. DeGeneres wasn’t directly accused, but some say she tolerated the toxic atmosphere. The show has suffered a staggering ratings decline since the scandal broke, reportedly losing more than 1 million viewers in the current season.

DeGeneres didn’t mention the ratings slide in her interview with the Reporter. Instead, she said she remains proud of the show but “in my gut, I know it’s time to do something different.” Yes, it’s better to distance yourself from the train wreck.
