Dems Organize ‘Special Order Hour’ to Share Stories of Capitol Attack

February 5, 2021

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and fellow progressive lawmakers organized a special order hour on the House floor on Thursday to “recount their experiences” of the January 6 chaos on Capitol Hill.

The special order hour, which is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET, comes after AOC posted videos of herself on social media describing in hysterical detail what she was thinking as the Capitol building was breached by some pro-Trump supporters.

However, after many pointed out that she was not actually in the Capitol building at the time, but in an adjacent House building that protesters did not enter, she was mocked by prominent conservative commentators on Twitter for exaggerating. The hashtag #AlexandriaOcasioSmollett trended throughout Wednesday evening, comparing her to actor and race hustler Jussie Smollett, who falsely claimed he was a victim of a hate crime which he himself faked.

The special order hour was organized by AOC and other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus “with the goal of creating space for members to talk about their lived experience and to call for accountability.” She is expected to “kick off” off the event, with Reps. Ayanna Pressley, Sheila Jackson Lee, Barbara Lee and other members of the progressive caucus participating.

Though AOC was never at risk, she shamefully has continued to exploit her own panic about the incident in order to demonize Trump supporters as domestic terrorists and white supremacists.
