In an op-ed published on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) appears to have called out Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono over her questioning of a judicial nominee’s membership in the Knights of Columbus.

Gabbard wrote that while she opposes the nomination of Brian C. Buescher, she stands strongly against those fomenting religious bigotry — implying her Hawaiian colleague Hirono.

Hirono’s spokesperson issued a statement saying, “Senator Hirono, asks all judicial nominees – particularly those who have expressed very strong personal ideological views in conflict with Supreme Court precedent – if they can be fair.”
