New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio officially announced his bid for the presidency on Thursday, throwing his hat into a ring already bulging with Democrats.
“There’s plenty of money in this world. There’s plenty of money in this country. It’s just in the wrong hands,” de Blasio said at the beginning of a video released by his campaign. “I’m running for president because it’s time we put working people first.”
A De Blasio victory in 2020 is considered a long shot, to put it mildly. A recent Quinnipiac University poll reported that 76% of voters in his own New York City say they believe he shouldn’t run. “He is a JOKE,” President Trump tweeted.
