In a press conference on Wednesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo read from the Bible in a tepid jab at President Trump, who had posed for photos with a Bible in front of St. John’s Church earlier in the week.
“The president held up the Bible the other day in Washington, D.C.,” Cuomo began as he too held up a copy. “Here in New York we actually read the Bible, and there are some passages that I think are especially appropriate today.” They read the Bible in New York? Since when? Since Trump posed with one.
Cuomo proceeded to read pointed passages from a series of slides rather than the Bible itself: “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called Children of God… If a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand… Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace and work to maintain it… I think those words are all appropriate for where we are today,” he concluded before continuing the conference.
