Clyburn: Kemp Stole the 2018 GA Governor Election from Abrams

March 30, 2021

Friday on MSNBC’s All In, House Majority Whip James Clyburn said that no one thinks Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, “did not steal the election fair and square from Stacey Abrams.”

“Nobody believes that he did not steal the election fair and square from Stacey Abrams,” Clyburn claimed falsely, referring to the Democrat darling of voter fraud, Abrams, who lost by over 50,000 votes in 2018. She has never conceded the defeat, blaming white “voter suppression.”

“And what he’s doing now is codifying that which he used his administrative authority to do when he was secretary of state, when he took so many people off the roll. And I guarantee you that was the difference in his having won that election and having stolen it fair and square,” Clyburn continued without evidence.

Asked to clarify if he was claiming that the purging of voter rolls made the difference in Kemp’s race against Abrams, Clyburn responded, “That’s exactly what I’m saying. And I’ve been around this business a long time, I know what purging is used for. And we all saw how strategic that purging was. And we all saw that a lot of people got purged who should not have been purged.”

False. The purging of voter rolls is not to suppress black votes, as Democrats routinely charge, but to remove the names of voters who are either deceased, have moved out of state, etc. It is to streamline and ensure election integrity, which Democrats cannot allow if they hope to win elections.
