Clyburn Accuses DeVos, Chao of ‘Running Away’ Before Invoking 25th Amend. to Remove Trump

January 11, 2021

In an interview with CNN on Friday, Rep. James Clyburn accused Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao of “running away from their responsibility” by stepping down before invoking the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office.

DeVos resigned from her position on Thursday, falsely blaming Trump for inciting the recent violence on Capitol Hill at a rally of supporters to protest the 2020 election. Chao also announced that her resignation will take effect Monday.

Although Clyburn conceded that Trump is unlikely to be removed from office through impeachment with less than two weeks until the end of his term, he slammed DeVos and Chao: “For two Cabinet members to resign, that says to me they are running away from their responsibility. If they feel that strongly, they would stay there and wait on this meeting so they can cast two of the votes that are necessary to invoke the 25th Amendment. They are running away.”

Last month Clyburn ludicrously called Trump’s efforts to overturn the illegitimate presidential election results “an attempted coup.” The actual coup was his own party’s theft of the presidency through massive voter fraud.
