Cleaver Ends Opening Prayer for Congress: ‘Amen and Awoman’

January 4, 2021

In his opening prayer for the 117th Congress on Sunday, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver concluded with the phrase “Amen and Awoman,” apparently in a jaw-droppingly dumb attempt to be inclusive of females.

Cleaver, who is also a pastor at St. James United Methodist Church of Kansas City, Missouri, prayed to “the God known by many names and faith,” before concluding with “Amen and Awoman” — seemingly ascribing gender to “Amen.”

As a pastor, is Cleaver unaware that the word “Amen” comes from Greek and Hebrew, and means “truly” or “it is so”? Does he seriously think that the word excludes women? Even people who are unclear on the derivation understand that the word is the traditional conclusion of a Christian or Jewish prayer and has nothing to do with the male sex. This is the most idiotic, illiterate feminist virtue-signaling since the corruption of the word “history” to “herstory.”

Cleaver shared a video of the prayer on social media and was swiftly and justifiably, roasted on Twitter.
