Castro: Trump Aiming to Win in 2020 Through ‘Racial Priming’

July 29, 2019

On CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday, 2020 White House contender Julian Castro called President Trump’s twitter condemnation of Rep. Elijah Cummings “racial priming.”

“I absolutely think it’s important for us to call it out for what it is, which is racism. I think you have to be very careful before you use that word,” Castro said. He went on to enumerate purported examples of Trump’s “racism” and concluded, “There is a pattern here.”

“This guy is the biggest identity politician that we have seen in the last 50 years, and he engages in what’s known as racial priming,” Castro claimed. “Basically using this language and taking actions to try and get people to move into their camps by racial and ethnic identity. That’s how he thinks he won in 2016 and that’s how he thinks he’s going to win in 2020.”

Trump won in 2016 because the American people were sick of race-mongering, radical elites like Castro and their attempted “fundamental transformation” of the United States. And that’s how he is going to win in 2020.
