Monday on Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom, commentator and former DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile claimed disingenuously that the violent Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests that burned across America in 2020 were nothing compared to last week’s unrest on Capitol Hill.
“I’m sad to hear all of this comparison,” Brazile said. “We’re under siege. We had armed insurrections, militia, people driving around our neighborhoods. I mean, I never felt unsafe last summer. I was disappointed. I was angry. I condemned the people who went out with rocks and bottles following the deaths of unarmed black people across the country. I understood their frustration, but yet I said go home, we can deal with this. We can work together. There are laws that can be passed.
“But what happened on January 6, there is no comparison — armed militia, people are still coming into the District of Columbia with military-style weapons being stopped,” she added.
Brazile is right, there is no comparison — but not the way she meant. The BLM rioters ravaged cities across America for months, costing many innocent lives and untold hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage. By contrast, the chaos at the Capitol was not an armed insurrection, but a short-lived, Antifa-instigated “break-in” (video shows protesters literally being ushered into the Capitol by D.C. police) involving a small number of rowdy Trump supporters who got carried away and took selfies. One cop died after being struck by a fire extinguisher; who was responsible is unclear. One unarmed protester (not armed militia) was shot dead.
Brazile knows this, but the Democrat narrative is the lie that BLM protesters are “mostly peaceful” social justice warriors and Trump supporters are domestic terrorists.
