Brazile: GOP ‘Afraid to Move On’ — They’re in the ‘Grips’ of Trump

May 24, 2021

Sunday on ABC’s This Week roundtable, former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile argued that Republican lawmakers would not investigate the Capitol breach on January 6 because they were “in the grips” of former President Donald Trump.

“This should go beyond our standard politics, the standard politics of which party benefits or which group of American voters will lose,” Brazile said. “This is about the citadel of our democracy being attacked. It’s about our country being in a state of disbelief. I cannot imagine not looking at all of the underlying factors that led to the march on the Capitol.”

“If we don’t investigate the underlying reasons what happened, and — then we will not prevent it from happening again. That is what is so scary about what happened on January 6,” she continued.

Fact check: there was no scary Trump-instigated “insurrection” on January 6, but this is a Narrative the left maintains in order to demonize Trump and his supporters, and to justify ramping up security of the Capitol and White House now that Democrats are in power.

Brazile went on to cite another leftist Narrative, that Republicans are clinging to the “Big Lie” that Dems stole the 2020 election. “And because of the big lie, Republicans are afraid to move on. Move on to crafting policies, you know, that they support. And as long as the Republican Party’s in the grips of one man, one man, they will not move forward.”

The problem with the Republican Party is not because it is in Trump’s grip, but precisely because it is no longer in his grip.
