In a recent video appearance before the AAPI Victory Fund, Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden tried to take a page from President Trump’s playbook by christening him with a mocking nickname, only to have it criticized as “cringeworthy” by Trump’s son Donald, Jr.
“Trump is out there tweeting again this morning, I call him ‘President Tweety,’” Biden said. He went on to criticize Trump’s push to reopen the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic. “How are we supposed to [reopen] if you’re sitting on the money small businesses need in order to stay alive?”
Donald Trump, Jr. hit back shortly afterward, tweeting that “‘President Tweety’ is exactly the type of high-quality nickname that you would expect to come from someone who uses the phrase ‘lying dog-faced pony soldier’ like it’s a normal thing to say. So cringeworthy!”
Over a year ago, Trump, who is well-known for ridiculing opponents on both left and right with devastating nicknames, had labeled the lethargic, gaffe-prone Biden “Sleepy Joe,” which has since stuck.
