During Thursday night’s ABC News town hall, Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden once again offered up his stunningly uninformed idea for “police reform,” suggesting that police should be trained to shoot perps in the leg instead of shooting to kill.
Biden called for “transparency,” banning chokeholds, and “de-escalating,” which he explained by saying, “So, instead of anybody coming at you and the first thing you do is shoot to kill, you shoot them in the leg.”
This reiterates what Breitbart News reported in June that Biden said: “Instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person comin’ at ’em with a knife or something to shoot ’em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing.”
Biden clearly has not bothered in a half century of political life to learn anything about law enforcement. First of all, cops aren’t trained to shoot to kill. They are trained to shoot to stop a dangerous, threatening perp, whatever that takes. Second, only a person with zero knowledge of shooting believes that all cops have to do is aim for the leg to incapacitate a perp. You can’t aim for the leg of a perp running at you. And a perp hopped up on drugs can take multiple shots to the torso without slowing down. Third, a perp with “a knife or something” is not “unarmed.” Biden has no business pontificating about “police reform.”
