Speaking at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami on Monday, Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden urged an audience in Miami to fantasize about what it would be like to deliver the “coup de grâce” — a death blow — to President Trump in the 2020 election.
At one point in his talk on the last day for voter registration in Florida, Biden said, “Wouldn’t it be an irony — the irony of all ironies — if on election eve, it turned out that Haitians deliver the coup de grâce in this election?”
The dictionary definition of “coup de grâce” is “a death blow or death shot administered to end the suffering of one mortally wounded.” Another definition is “a decisive finishing blow, act, or event.”
The phrase raised some eyebrows online — conservative commentator Mollie Hemingway observed that the term referred to putting a wounded person or animal out of its misery — but imagine the media uproar and the apoplexy among the blue-checked leftists on Twitter if Donald Trump had said the same thing about Joe Biden. The comment would be condemned as a violent threat, and more leftist rioting would ensue in protest.
