Bernstein: January 6 ‘Most Grievous Assault on Democracy’ Since Civil War

November 12, 2021

Thursday on CNN’s New Day, washed-up former journalist Carl Bernstein declared that the January 6 chaos at the Capitol constituted “a conspiracy like none other in the United States,” calling it “the most grievous assault on democracy since the Confederacy and the Civil War.”

“It’s very significant,” Bernstein began. “First of all, let’s look what’s happening here. We’re talking about a conspiracy like none other in the United States, to undermine an election, led, this conspiracy, by the President of the United States. And there are some people who work for Mike Pence who indeed are angry about the conspiracy and that Pence was brought into it indirectly.”

Fact check: there is literally no evidence of any conspiracy, unless he’s talking about the FBI instigation of the Capitol breach and its entrapment targeting Trump supporters. Bernstein isn’t interested in addressing that.

“But we have a year to go to find out what happened,” Bernstein continued to blather, “until the Republicans, in all likelihood, take over the Congress, they’re going to try to shut down this investigation. The press, particularly, the committee, one year to go to find out what happened in the most grievous assault on democracy since the Confederacy and the Civil War.”

To paraphrase Bernstein, let’s look what’s really happening here. He is intentionally pushing the grotesque leftist narrative demonizing Trump and his supporters as domestic terrorists more dangerous than al Qaeda. He’s not a journalist or “analyst” — he’s a propagandist.
