Supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are waging an increasingly public “war” against Texas Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, a rising star in the Democratic Party, as the two prepare to vie for the presidential nomination in 2020.
The argument being pushed by Sanders supporters is that O’Rourke isn’t Progressive enough — that he’s been too close to Republicans in Congress, too close to corporate donors and not willing enough to use his star power to help fellow Democrats.
“If we buy the Beto package, we’re gonna have buyer’s remorse later on,” said Norman Solomon, a Sanders delegate at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
