During CNN’s debate coverage on Wednesday, CNN Senior Political Commentator David Axelrod stated that presidential hopeful Joe Biden is “kind of Mr. Magooing his way through” the debates, but “is moving forward.”
“Biden, I wouldn’t say that he was a house on fire in any of the debates that we’ve been to,” Axelrod said, an understatement of epic proportions. Biden has earned a reputation during this campaign, even among his fellow Democrats, as “gaffe-prone” at best, and senile at worst.
“And yet, he comes — kind of bumps along, kind of Mr. Magooing his way through this,” Axelrod continued, referring to the comically blundering, blind cartoon character Mr. Magoo.
“And you keep worrying that he’s going to hit a wall, but he is moving forward,” Axelrod concluded weakly, trying to give Biden’s performance a positive spin. But comparing his party’s presidential frontrunner to Mr. Magoo is hardly a rousing recommendation or an encouraging sign for the 2020 election.
