Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) will serve as a guest judge later this month on the VH1 reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race, will carry a semi-political theme this season.
In a trailer for the show posted Thursday, celebrity drag queen RuPaul announced that he will preside over the “Ru-nited States of America,” and that “the time has come for the first drag queen president.”
Ocasio-Cortez will join other celebrity judges such as singers Nicki Minaj and Chaka Khan, and actresses Daisy Ridley and Thandie Newton. “Join the Ru-volution,” AOC proclaims in the trailer. “I’m Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and I pledge allegiance to the drag.”
Nothing says “take me seriously as a lawmaker” quite like judging a drag queen contest. And perhaps nothing says how far the Democrat Party has veered from mainstream America quite like its embrace of the radical fringe of identity politics, such as promoting Drag Queen Story Hour for children in public libraries and pushing a transsexual agenda.
