AOC: ‘Forced Birth Movement’ Not About Life but ‘Control’

June 29, 2022

In an Instagram story slide titled “The Forced Birth Movement & Violence,” far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) complained that the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade is part of a “forced birth movement” that is not about life but about “intimidation, power, and control.”

The “organized forced birth movement in the US has a decades-long history of political violence,” AOC ranted, providing a link to NARAL Pro-Choice America, which detailed actions taken by what it has dubbed “anti-choice extremists” and “anti-choice zealots” who “murdered 11 people … between 1993 and. 2016.” The post continues, asserting that pro-choice organizations have been the targets of murder, bombings, arson, kidnapping, assault, stalking, and vandalism.

“Once again, much of this organized militant ‘movement’ is not about life,” she continued. “It is about intimidation, power, and control.” No, it actually is about life.

“‘Pro-life’ individuals can reject abortion and uphold the practices of their faith,” she said. “It does not grant them the right to violate others’ bodily autonomy.”

Fact check: as pro-lifers repeatedly note and pro-choicers repeatedly ignore, bodily autonomy is not the issue because a fetus is a human being distinct from the mother’s body.

“If you’d like to read more about how Christian Fundamentalism is exploited politically to amplify right-wing misogynistic and racist movements, this is a thorough place to start,” she wrote.

If AOC could set aside her insane conspiratorial theories about “racial patriarchy” long enough to ponder a rational thought, here’s something for her to consider: one doesn’t have to be a Christian fundamentalist or right-wing misogynist to acknowledge the biological reality that a fetus is an unborn human being and has a right to life and protection. One doesn’t even have to be Christian to recognize that gruesomely terminating that life for reasons of convenience is morally unconscionable. It is murder.

From that perspective, it is the organized, militant pro-abortion movement that is all about power and control.
