Amnesty Cites Human Rights Violations Across Middle East

February 27, 2019

Amnesty International has released its annual report on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), in which it notes that “global indifference” to human rights violations in the region has allowed repressive regimes to get away with crimes that they wouldn’t elsewhere.

The report argues that many regimes act with “generalized impunity across the region for both past and ongoing violations.”

“Across MENA throughout 2018 thousands of dissidents and peaceful critics have been victims of shameless government violations on a shocking scale, amid deafening silence from the international community,” Amnesty’s regional director said in a statement.
