The U.S. military may have committed lethal “war crimes” against “numerous” civilians, including children, in its airstrike campaign against the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab in Somalia, the human rights group Amnesty International claimed Wednesday.
In a new report, Amnesty alleges that five of the more than 100 bombs air-dropped on Somalian jihadis under President Trump’s watch have killed 14 civilians and wounded eight others, including women and children.
U.S. Africa Command maintains that its airstrikes only target al-Shabaab and have killed no civilians.
