American Airlines Investigating Kerry’s Federal Mask Violation

March 19, 2021

American Airlines has announced it is investigating John Kerry, the Biden administration’s “climate envoy,” for violating the federal mask mandate by failing to mask up while flying first class on an AA flight from Boston to Washington on Wednesday.

A photo, first published by The Tennessee Star, shows Kerry reading a book while his face is completely exposed. In a February 1 release from American Airlines, Chief Operating Officer David Seymour stated, “Our mask requirement has been and will continue to be a critical component of our comprehensive effort to protect the health and well-being of our customers and team members during the pandemic.

“This federal mandate will provide additional support to our crew members who are working diligently to enforce our policy and further reinforce the safety of air travel during COVID-19,” he added.

President Biden issued an executive order on January 21 aimed to promote “COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel.” The order requires individuals to wear masks for “certain modes of domestic travel,” applying to airports, commercial aircraft, trains, public maritime vessels, and intercity buses.

It is unclear whether, or how, Kerry may be penalized for the infraction. What is clear is that Kerry, like Democrats in general, don’t feel they have to live by the same rules they impose on others.
