In a speech at the United Nations on Tuesday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas raged against President Trump’s newly–unveiled peace plan for a Palestinian state alongside Israel, calling it a “plan to put an end to the question of Palestine.”
“This plan should not be considered an international reference for negotiations. It is an Israeli-American preemptive plan to put an end to the question of Palestine,” Abbas said. “This plan violates international legitimacy. It annuls the legitimacy of Palestinian rights, our right to self-determination, freedom and independence of our own state.”
Referring to Israel’s annexation of Jewish West Bank settlements, Abbas continued, “It legitimized what is illegal, settlements and confiscation of land and annexation of Palestinian land.”
Abbas’ displeasure is nothing new or unexpected. The so-called Palestinians will not accept, and have never accepted, any plan that allows for the continued existence of the state of Israel.
