Sheikh Faysal Mawlawi

A leader of the European Council for Fatwa Research, Sheikh Faysal Mawlawi is a Muslim cleric known for his support of Palestinian suicide bombings as a legitimate form of “resistance” against Israel. Mawlawi issued a fatwa (religious legal ruling) following a Palestinian suicide bombing in Israel that killed forty people, including four Americans. His fatwa asserted that “martyrdom operations are not suicide [which Islam purportedly prohibits] and should not be deemed as unjustifiable means of endangering one’s life.” “Whoever is killed in such missions is a martyr,” said Mawlawi, “[and] may Allah bless him with high esteem.”
