- Marxist spokesperson for the anarcho-Socialist group, Class War
- “The alternative to the War on Terror, short of a socialist world – and that is the only real tangible alternative – is for the U.S. to reassess its role in the Middle East and seek an honorable and just settlement.”
Dave Douglass serves as a prominent member and spokesperson for Class War, a United Kingdom-based anarcho-Socialist organization that seeks the creation of a “popular culture of resistance” against the purported evils of capitalism, evils that allegedly “invade all areas of our lives.” Class War is one of the most influential and prominent Socialist counter-culture groups in the U.K., with its website and newsletter disseminating Socialist news and posting schedules of anti-capitalism protests that its members can attend.
Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, Douglass, who describes himself as “a revolutionary Marxist on the Anarchist left,” released a letter blaming the attacks on America’s foreign policy and its capitalist economic system. “Despite the horror of the attack,” wrote Douglass, “it must be said that this was retaliation…and revenge for decades of American (and British) bombing of cities around the world, and in particular the Muslim world… The alternative [to the War on Terror], short of a socialist world – and that is the only real tangible alternative – is for the US to reassess its role in the Middle East and seek an honorable and just settlement.”
