Additional Information on Reza Aslan

Overview

* In January 2016, Aslan said: “I’m waiting for a Muslim ‘All in the Family.’ Muslims are never going to feel like a part of the American family until people start to make fun of them on TV. That’s how minds have always been changed in this country.”

* Aslan commonly responds to criticism by resorting to profanity and ad hominem attacks, deriding those who disagree with him as “morons,” “ignorant twits,” and “f***ing liars.”

* Over the course of his professional career, Alan has served as:

  • an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations;
  • member of the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities, the Pacific Council on International Policy, the American Academy of Religions, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the International Qur’anic Studies Association;
  • board of directors member with the Ploughshares Fund, Narrative Four, PEN USA, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and the Levantine Cultural Center;
  • board of trustees member for the Chicago Theological Seminary and the Yale Humanist Community;
  • national advisory board member of the Markaz (formerly the Levantine Cultural Center), a program to promote peace between Americans and the Arab/Muslim world;
  • legislative assistant for the Friends Committee on National Legislation; and
  • president of the Harvard University chapter of the World Conference of Religions for Peace.
