The Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) has collaborated with the AFL-CIO in a campaign to promote the Employee Free Choice Act, a measure that would deprive workers — including many unskilled immigrants — of the right to vote for or against the unionization of their workforce by means of a secret ballot. The passage of such a bill would not only swell the rolls of unionized public-sector employees, but would also increase the federal government’s influence over union contract negotiations. Both of those effects would comport with the long-term aims of the Democratic Party, which, being largely supportive of immigration-law reforms such as amnesty, is the party that BAJI heavily favors.
