2008 Menendez campaigned and fundraised for Hillary
Clinton's failed presidential bid.
April 4, 2011 (the 43rd anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s
assassination), in Trenton New Jersey, Menendez participated
in an educational roundtable at a rally co-sponsored by the AFL-CIO
and the Rutgers American
Association of University Professors-American
Federation of Teachers (AFT). The purpose of the rally was to link the
agendas of the labor movement with those of the civil-rights
movement. Other participants included New York Times columnist
Krugman, AFT national president Randi Weingarten, New Jersey
president James Harris, and SEIU
New Jersey state council president Rahaman Muhammad.
