ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE MIGRATION POLICY INSTITUTE
* Conflating legal immigrants with their illegal counterparts, MPI asserts
that “immigrants provide a net fiscal surplus to the federal
government” by way of the federal income taxes they pay. By the same
token, the Institute strongly advocates the use of public funds to
furnish financial and health-related benefits for “low-skilled”
immigrants who are not self-sufficient. Such appropriations, says the
Institute, would boost the national economy as a whole “by creating
healthier, more economically productive residents.”
* MPI's Transatlantic
Council on Migration "examines
vital policy issues and informs migration policymaking processes
across the Atlantic community."
* From 2010 to early 2013, MPI took part in a
three-year Regional Migration Study Group, which functioned as a
“virtual
think tank” aiming to “develop and promote a longer-term vision of
how to build a stronger social and economic foundation” for North and Central America.
* MPI's Labor
Markets Initiative produces detailed policy recommendations on
how the United States should rethink its immigration policy “in the
light of what is known about the economic impact of
immigration.”
* MPI's online journal, The Migration Information Source, provides
up-to-date migration and refugee data and analysis. As such, it serves as a tool
for policymakers, journalists, researchers, and NGOs.
* MPI has established
an English Language Learner Information Center to provide state-level
data resources that chronicle the demography and trends of immigrant
families and their children in various regions of the
U.S.
