The Livingry Foundation (LF) derives its name from a term coined by the late architect/author/futurist Buckminster Fuller, who said: “The architectural profession—civil, naval, aeronautical, and astronautical—has always been the place where the most competent thinking is conducted regarding livingry, as opposed to weaponry.” Focusing primarily on environmental issues in New Mexico, the Foundation asserts that “from weaponry to livingry there exists a realizable evolutionary alternative.” Rejecting the expenditure of “an inordinate amount of energy, focus and resources on the infrastructure of war and weaponry,” LF aims “to support and promote the visionary concept of life and livingry,” so as to “help build a foundation for a world that can work for all beings.”

Among LF's more noteworthy grantees are the Common Cause Education Fund, the Rainforest Action Network, the Threshold Foundation, and the Tides Foundation.

LF is a member of the Peace and Security Funders Group, an association of foundations, charitable trusts, and individual philanthropists who “make grants or expenditures that contribute to peace and global security.”

Drummond Pike, founder and president of the Tides Foundation, is an officer of LF.
