Ultra-Moonbats on the MOVE
MOVE is a little Afrofascist terrorist organization made famous by two things, its association with Mumia Abu-Jamal and the firefight at its headquarters in Philadelphia in 1985.
On the morning of May 13, 1985, Philadelphia police officers arrived at the MOVE home at 6221 Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia to serve arrest warrants on four MOVE members, and were met with gunfire, authorities said. Police fired back, touching off a 90-minute gun battle. Later that day, police dropped a bomb on the MOVE row house from a state police helicopter. The bomb missed its target -- a fortified bunker on the roof -- and started a fire that burned an entire city block.
Eleven years after that, a jury ordered the city of Philadelphia and two former city officials to pay $1.5 million to a survivor and relatives of two members of the group who died in the subsequent fire. The group's founder John Africa and his nephew Frank James Africa died in the incident. Mumia was still a bit young to be murdering any policemen when all that took place, but later became a cheerleader for the MOVE movement as a self-proclaimed "journalist." MOVE and Mumia are generally the twin banners for many of the leftist Ultras. Mumia was jailed in 1982, and was convicted of murdering police officer Daniel Faulkner, who had earlier arrested his brother.
Since then, MOVE and Mumia have become something of a cause celebre for the Uber-Moonbats. There is a first-class blog that exposes the lies of these people and follows MOVE and its apologists.
This week, Lynne Stewart, recently convicted of conspiring with terrorists, is appearing at Mumia rallies sponsored by the Workers World Party, a sect that split from the mainstream American communist party when the latter backed de-Stalinization by Khrushchev, which WWP opposed. These are the same people who have been trying to make jailed NY debutante Lori Berenson into another cause celebre (Berenson is in a Peruvian jail for assisting local Maoist terrorists).
Another cult that supports both Jamal and MOVE is the "International Action Center." According to the group’s website the IAC is dedicated to: "Information, Activism, and Resistance to U.S. Militarism, War, and Corporate Greed, Linking with Struggles Against Racism and Oppression within the United States." The IAC is in fact just a Stalinist spin group for Mumia and MOVE. The IAC and it’s various front groups are well funded and relatively organized:
“The International Action Center is a prominent Left organization located in New York City which is known for organizing large Left protests. What most people don't know is that an authoritarian left organization stands behind the IAC, an organization known as the Workers World Party. Both organizations have been criticized by Left activists for supporting unsavory leaders such as Saddam Hussein and Slobodan Milosevic. They support these unsavory rulers because they subscribe to a shallow version of anti-imperialism. Quite simply, they will support any regime, no matter how vile they really are, if that regime is opposed to U.S. imperialism and aggression.”
Perhaps the best known IAC figure is former U.S. Attorney General (under the Johnson administration), Ramsey Clark. Clark, who evidently has never met a terrorist he did not like, was an apologist for Saddam Hussein and acted as counsel for North Vietnamese Communists and Iran's Islamic dictatorship.

Thanks for the pointer to the antiMOVE blog. Man, I need to update my blog roll.

Lori Berensen is an idiot but not a debutante. Her father was my Professor at Baruch and I feel for him as a human being. No parent should have a kid that stupid.
