Arabs for Peace

Arabs for Israel is one group you will not read about in your local lib'ruh daily. You know, those same liberal media that can never provide enough coverage of far-leftist, self-hating, anti-Israel Jews.

It is a group of Arabs and Moslems, including Palestinians, who support the State of Israel and the cause of Peace in the Middle East. So naturally, they will not be considered newsworthy in the LA Times or the Washington Post. Their Web site carries articles, petitions and news. Among the more interesting is Growing Up As An Israeli Arab Woman by Salma Abdallah.

Among their basic principles, they proclaim:

"There are many Jews and Israelis who freely express compassion and support for the Palestinians. It is time that we Arabs express reciprocal compassion and support. The existence of the State of Israel is a fact that should be accepted by the Arab world. Israel is a legitimate state that is not a threat but an asset in the Middle East."
The Left does not consider these people "genuine" because they are not beheading anyone nor hijacking airplanes nor sending out suicide bombers.

Lawdy, Lawdy
Why is it that folks on both sides of the aisle these days must accuse the loyal opposition of rank stupidity in order to justify their point of view?

What has happened to well-reasoned debate? Of people of good will arriving at different opinions? Of respectful listening and weighing? Of acknowledging shades of gray?

Alas, many of the most vocal among us give weight to the notion of the Ugly American.

The recent post about Palestinians for Israel is an example. What makes the author believe that the left would not applaud this sentiment? There are similar Israeli groups who acknowledge the grievances of the Palestinians. Would that we all thought more along these lines. To seek to understand rather than condemn.
