The Soros Noise Machine
In his book The Republican Noise Machine, David Brock asserts that rightwing forces control U.S. media. "I know there is a Republican Noise Machine because I was once part of it," he avers. But what is this Republican Noise Machine? Brock explains:
"Today the most important sectors of the political media – most of cable TV news, the majority of popular op-ed columns, almost all of talk radio, a substantial chunk of the book market, and many of the most highly trafficked Web sites… are powerful propaganda organs of the Republican Party. … My view is that unchecked right-wing media power means that in the United States today, no issue can be honestly debated and no election can be fairly decided."Presumably in an effort to counter this Republican Noise Machine, Brock has hired out his services to its leftwing counterpart. Let's call it the Soros Noise Machine.
"The Official Hillary Clinton Think Tank"
On July 7, 2003, leftwing billionaire George Soros launched a non-profit think tank called the Center for American Progress (CAP), personally pledging $3 million in seed money. He appointed former Clinton chief of staff John Podesta as CAP chairman and Morton H. Halperin – who heads Soros' Open Society Policy Institute – as CAP's senior vice president.
Leftwing writer Robert Dreyfuss described CAP's mission with admirable candor in The Nation, writing, "It’s not completely wrong to see it as a shadow government, a kind of Clinton White-House-in-exile – or a White House staff in readiness for President Hillary Clinton.”
“It’s the official Hillary Clinton think tank,” an inside source confided to Christian Bourge of United Press International.
In its quest to further Hillary's political ambitions, CAP specializes in an endeavor which has obsessed Senator Clinton throughout her public life; the art of manipulating, intimidating, discrediting and, where possible, silencing critics in the media. One of CAP's top priorities is to carry out what its Web site calls "rapid response" to conservative "attacks" in the media.
On May 3, 2004, CAP helped launch Media Matters for America – a self-styled "media watchdog" group which quickly distinguished itself by its relentless attacks against public critics of George Soros. Its president is David Brock, an erstwhile conservative journalist who, upon embracing the left, made a great show of public repentance, confessing to having served as a paid liar and character assassin for rightwing moneymen – an odd choice for a media ethics cop, to say the least.
The financial conduits which link Brock's operation to the Soros machine have been fully discussed on this blog (see, for instance, "Horowitz Exposes Brock as Paid Hatchet Man for Soros"). We need not reiterate them here.
Target: Horowitz
What does demand further analysis is the extraordinary effort which Brock and his "media activists" have expended in attacking David Horowitz. What exactly is Horowitz doing that constitutes such a threat to Brock's overlords George Soros and Hillary Clinton?
Media Matters has expended enormous time and effort painting Horowitz as a "racist," a proven liar," a "lunatic" and so forth. Obviously we're doing something right, or the Soros Noise Machine would not have targeted Horowitz with such intensity. But what? Of all the manifold activities we carry out here at CSPC, which have proved most annoying to Brock's paymasters?
If only we knew – then we could emphasize them even more!
