Radical Left's Anti-Semites No Longer Pretending It’s “Zionism” They Hate

EDWARD OLSHAKER is a superb writer who makes fascinating points in a post by him to a MSN chat group this week, about the new trend among the Far Left, namely,to abandon any pretense that their hatred of Jews has anything to do with "Zionism". His piece deserves to be read in full but I include here only some nuggets.

He writes:

"Not long ago, Jew-haters of the left - and their strange-bedfellow twins on the right - seemed content to obsess about the unique evils of the 'Zionists' or the 'Likudniks,' but nowadays the trend seems to be to drop the silly euphemisms and rant openly against the Jews. The same phenomenon seen in European cities - where 'death to the Jews' has been a popular rallying cry at anti-war rallies - and on campuses such as San Francisco State University - where vitriolic slogans, death threats, and violence have been directed at 'the Jews,' not at Israeli policy - is now showing up increasingly in the 'progressive' media.

"In a recent article in the left-wing web magazine Counterpunch, 'Who is John Negroponte?' author Ghali Hassan complains in the first paragraph:…Negroponte is Jewish. A friend in Spain expressed his deep concern to me recently: 'to appoint a Jew as ambassador to the Arab country that has been devastated because of the will of a cabal of Jewish neocons headed by Wolfowitz - Bush is just an accessory - is like trying to put off a fire using buckets of gasoline.'

"It is revealing that on Counterpunch 'Negroponte is Jewish' is listed first and foremost among his disqualifying flaws. Counterpunch is just one of many left-wing publications that seem to be increasingly dedicated to demonizing the Jews. A similar web magazine, Online Journal, appears to have sharply changed its orientation a couple of years ago, when it began featuring a series of anti-Semitic rants by left-wing writers, perhaps the most memorable being John Kaminski, who has written that 'the biggest problem in the world is Judaism…and how it creates misery and exploitation wherever it spreads.' Kaminski says he has a mission 'to make people see they have been duped for many years by rich Zionist Jews who control virtually all of the U.S. mainstream media.'

"Of course, even when the term employed is 'Zionists' or 'Israelis,' the message is the same - that of all the people in the world, the Jews are uniquely evil. "

Olshaker continues:

'Openly neo-Nazi Jeff Rense is a partner of Counterpunch and similar outfits in spreading such libel and Hassan’s Counterpunch article about a cabal of Jews wrecking the Middle East was eagerly picked up and posted on Rense’s website, under the title, “Negroponte is Jewish,” where it fit in nicely with equally delightful news items: “True Scum: The Jew Who Fled Rio,” “Jews Have Debased American and Jewish Culture,” “Zionist Thread Through Many Mass Shootings?” (claiming Zionists brainwashed American Indian teenager Jeffrey Weise to commit mass murder on the Red Lake, Minnesota reservation), and “A Prominent False Witness - Elie Wiesel,” written by Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson.

'Revealingly, the hate-driven crackpot Faurisson - who claims the Jews caused World War II, and mocks Holocaust survivors as liars - has been praised by radical left-wing icon Noam Chomsky for the quality of his “extensive historical research.”
