Leftist Power – Its Deniers and Dissemblers
Just how powerful is the organized left? The leftists themselves send mixed signals. For instance, David Brock, a paid propagandist for radical billionaire George Soros' Shadow Party, writes in his book The Republican Noise Machine:
"For the first time since 1929, the Republican Party controls all three branches of government. Fewer people identify with the Democratic Party today than at any time since the New Deal. Conservatism seems the prevailing political and intellectual current, while liberalism seems a fringe dispensation of a few aging professors and Hollywood celebrities."A few aging professors and Hollywood celebs? That sounds pretty grim for the left. But Joe Klein, senior writer for Time magazine, sees things differently. On November 2, 2004, Klein took part in an election night roundtable discussion on The Charlie Rose Show, previously discussed on this page under the headline, "Bill Moyers on the Coming Fascist Coup." Here is the passage in question:
BILL MOYERS: I think if Kerry were to win this in a -- in a tight race, I think there`d be an effort to mount a coup, quite frankly. I mean just…Fascinating. According to Klein, the "right wing" does not even control the military or the intelligence community. Who does control those institutions, in Klein's view? Stay tuned for further exploration of this obscure yet vital question.
CHARLIE ROSE: What do you mean by a coup?
BILL MOYERS: I mean that the right wing is not going to accept it.
JOE KLEIN: Except for the fact that they don't control -- they don`t control the military, they don`t control the intelligence community. What they control is Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and, you know, one side of the table on "Crossfire."

It's both sad and funny to read the incoherent ramblings of Moyers and Klein. Watching the left steadily lose power must be quite traumatic for them, causing all manner of paranoia.

I'm confused, does the article mean to imply that aging hippies really do have power?

Mr. MacLaurie, under ordinary circumstances, I would be pleased to answer your question and clear up your confusion regarding the meaning of my post on "Leftist Power."
However, my long experience in moderating message boards forewarns me that any effort to engage you in civil discourse would be a waste of time. You are a troll, Mr. MacLaurie, a person who has come here for the deliberate purpose of disrupting and souring any attempt at orderly, mature and friendly discussion. I have seen and dealt with your like a thousand times.
Your resort to racially-charged insults and other forms of crude personal abuse on this blog disqualifies you from civil discourse. Keep it up, and it will disqualify you from posting here altogether.
