Belgium Waffles

How can it be, some wonder, that high officials in the Government of Belgium, our erstwhile ally, refused to condemn the plastering of public school and other public restroom urinals with stickers bearing the image of President George W. Bush during this week's state visit?

These stickers of President Bush, reported The Weekly Standard, were designed by the leader of the youth auxiliary of the Socialist Party, the party of Belgium's Vice Prime Minister and its Minister of Justice. Such is the depth of intellectual discussion and debate in this petite socialiste low country famed for waffling.

To understand Belgium's most noble symbol (the "Manneken Pis," based on a heroic fable of urination by a small boy) as well as Belgium's history as the brutal colonizer of the Congo and as a past and present cultural colony itself of France, check out my analysis of this tiny schizoid nation published two years ago at frontpagemagazine.com titled "Belgium the Brave."

It's time we stopped describing our favorite foods as French fries and Belgian waffles.

"Freedom Fries" amuses me to no end. It's like the wing-nuts are running out of ways to insult people. Or maybe ya'll are purposefully making yourselves look stupid. That's okay, doesn't bother me or any of my friends who live in Freedom. I have friends in the South of Freedom, and some who live in the capitol of Freedom -- that would be Paris.

Hahahaha! Paris, the "capitol of Freedom"!

You do mean Paris, France correct? You know, that country where school kids aren't allowed to wear any kind of religious symbols while they are attending classes in public schools?

The same France that collaborated with the Nazis during WW2?

The same France who had its troops fire upon unarmed civilian protestors in the Ivory Coast a few months ago?

The same France wherein Jewish people are being terrorized by Muslims on a daily basis while the government looks the other way?

The same France that was taking bribe money from Saddam in the oil-for-food program to vote against any US-backed, UN Security Council action against Saddam's regime, while at the same time selling armaments to Saddam that were used to kill US soldiers despite UN sanctions against arms sales to Iraq?

You mean the same France that wants Europe to lift its ban on selling weapons to China so that it can line its pockets supporting another murderous regime?

You mean the same France that is headed by Chirac, who recently refused to call Hezbollah a terrorist group even though they have purpetrated hundreds of suicide bombings against Israeli civilians and who have been shown to have ties to Al Qaeda?

Oh yeah, France, the "capitol of Freedom!"(TM)

Don't blame me, I'm not the one who manipulated that piece of vocabulary.
