Fatima Ayub is a spokeswoman for the National Organizing Committee of the Palestine Solidarity Movement, the collegiate arm of the pro-Hamas organization International Solidarity Movement. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Muslim Student Association's Political Task Force and is a staff member of Human Rights Watch.

When she was an undergraduate student at George Mason University (GMU), Ayub was Vice President of both the GMU Arab Student Association and the GMU branch of Students for Justice in Palestine.

Also during her undergraduate years at GMU, Ayub wrote an academic paper ("The Ongoing Quest for Legitimacy: Hamas in the Intifadaat") on the legitimacy of the Hamas movement for the Palestinian people. 

In November 2003, when Ayub was a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, she spoke at the Third Annual Palestine Solidarity Movement Conference at Ohio State University, where she praised the Islamic "freedom fighters" in "Afghanistan, Palestine, Iraq and Chechnya" -- all locations where al Qaeda had been active.
