Born in 1973, Omar Jamal became the head of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In April 2002 he was charged in Memphis, Tennessee with filing false INS documents to gain entry into the United States. Publicly vocal in his disagreement with the war in Iraq, he claimed that the INS-related charges against him had been levied as retribution against his his antiwar stance.

In 2009, Jamal took a job as First Secretary with the Permanent Mission of the Somali Republic to the United Nations in New York City.

In 2010, Dahir Mirreh Jibreel, 56, replaced Jamal as leader of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center.
