In 1999 Michele Kirsch co-founded, with her husband Steven, the Steven and Michele Kirsch Foundation, whose philanthropy places special focus on radical environmentalism and the elimination of nuclear weapons. Ms. Kirsch is a graduate of Mills College in Oakland, California, and earned a law degree from Santa Clara University. Formerly a commercial real estate broker in San Francisco, she now serves as a volunteer fundraiser for her favorite charities, including the Children's Health Council (whose stated mission is "to make a measurable difference in the lives of children who face behavioral and developmental challenges by providing interdisciplinary educational, assessment and treatment services, and professional training"); the Northern California Innocence Project (which "works within an educational framework to exonerate indigent California prisoners who have been wrongly convicted"); and Resource Area for Teachers (which seeks to provide schoolteachers with the materials and training they need in order to give their students hands-on learning experiences.
