Sara Flounders is a national co-director of the anti-war group International ANSWER and a member of the Workers World Party, a Marxist-Leninist sect that was the sponsor and organizer of the major national demonstrations against the war in Iraq. Founded in 1959, the WWP is one of the most important organizations on the left. This group idolizes the former Soviet dictator and mass murderer Joseph Stalin and regards Fidel Castro as a hero of the common man. It has supported the Soviet invasions of Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan, as well as the regimes of Slobodan Milocevic in the former Yugoslavia and Kim Jong Il in North Korea - notwithstanding the barbarous atrocities and human rights violations they have committed. In the 1960s, the WWP called for the victory of the Vietcong over American troops in the Vietnam War. The WWP controls the activities of International ANSWER.

Flounders also writes for Workers World, the WWP newsletter, and has written several novels on subjects ranging from depleted uranium to the Haitian Revolution. She is a co-coordinator of the Depleted Uranium Education Project, along with fellow WWP member John Catalinotto.

On June 10, 2000, Flounders was part of the "prosecutor team" of the "International Tribunal for U.S./NATO warcrimes in Yugoslavia,"designed to condemn American military actions against former Yugoslavian tyrant Slobodan Milosevic. "We will show today," said Flounders, "that NATO is not only guilty of war crimes, but NATO is the crime. NATO is a criminal conspiracy with a global appetite. NATO is a criminal conspiracy that is commanded, organized and largely equipped by the Pentagon."

On June 6, 2002, Flounders attacked Israel's new security wall and referred to Hamas terrorists who were assassinated by Israel as "resistance organizers." "International solidarity is more important than ever in the face of the continuing and overwhelming Israeli violence," said Flounders. "Everywhere we traveled in the West Bank and in Gaza, Palestinians had heard and seen coverage of the demonstration of over 100,000 people in solidarity with Palestine in Washington, D.C. Even though they are surrounded on every side, the resistance continues because they know they are not isolated."

Shortly after major combat had ended in Iraq in 2003, Flounders wrote a scathing article in Workers World stating that American troops were starving and abusing the Iraqi people. She ascribed several problems that had plagued Iraq prior to the war - namely a lack of dependable electricity and clean drinking water - to the war itself. She further claimed that the U.S. had maliciously and/or carelessly bombed Iraqi mosques and schools, and was in some cases using such buildings as military compounds. "This is a time to demand that the U.S. and British pay Iraq billions in reparations, and to absolutely oppose any UN legitimization of piracy and conquest," Flounders said.
