  • Was killed in a 1974 shootout with Los Angeles police

William “Kajoh” (Cujo) Wolfe was a founding member of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), a domestic terrorist group of the 1970s.

Wolfe was the son of a wealthy anesthesiologist and attended an exclusive prep school. He adopted the hippie lifestyle immediately after college and eventually enrolled in the University of California-Berkeley in 1971. He became a Maoist and joined Venceremos, a “revolutionary vanguard.” In March 1972, Wolfe became involved with the Black Convicts Association -- a prisoner-education group at the California Medical Facility at Vacaville, a psychiatric prison. This is where he met inmate Donald DeFreeze, the founder of the SLA.

Wolfe was killed in a shootout with Los Angeles police on May 17, 1974, along with DeFreeze and four other members of the SLA.
