Overview

* Founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
* Died on January 26, 2008 in Amman, Jordan

George Habash is the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Marxist-Leninist group which stresses both Palestinian autonomy and proletarian awareness, and is one of the principal terrorist organizations in the Middle East. Habash viewed the “liberation” of Palestine (i.e., the destruction of Israel) as an integral part of the world Communist revolution. Over the past decade, the PFLP has claimed responsibility for a string of terrorist acts, murders, and bombings, including ten car bombings and the assassination of an Israeli tourism minister. In an effort to champion his call for violence against Western influences, capitalism, and Israel, Habash has said, “We call all the Palestinian forces … to freeze out security cooperation with the Zionist enemy and boost armed and popular struggle against the army of occupation…”

He passed away on January 26, 2008 in Amman, Jordan
